It is now 2014 and resolutions are running as high as the hopes to keep them. One of the most popular resolutions year after year is to get in shape. If you haven’t given in by now we want to help you achieve that goal.

Mid January is much too cold for most to train outdoors and gyms have crowds, pricey memberships and beautiful people that can be discouraging for those who are just starting. (unless the gym is a favorite hook-up spot: check the dating & relationship section of our site for that). Thankfully, only one piece of common tech is necessary to help out; a smartphone. That’s right, ‘there’s an app for that’.  Here are five of the best apps we have found that you can download to help achieve a trainer’s dream body.

Workout Trainer

Our first app is called Workout Trainer by Skimble INC. This app has a ton of free workouts with more added regularly. Participants have the ability to select a level of intensity from beginner, intermediate to expert, all of which can be done at home. Equipment is not necessary for a large number the workouts offered, but if a trainee has equipment or would like to use it, there are plenty Workout Trainer utilizes (weights, elastic bands, medicine balls and more).

Not only are the intensity levels adjustable but so are participants’ time frames. This is perfect for those that may not have a lot of time on hand or have flexible schedules and are not available every Tuesday. Participants can chose workouts anywhere from five minutes to 20 minutes or more. This will also change the intensity of select workouts; the Plank for example.

Another great feature of this app is the ability to select workout programs. These programs are geared toward those who are schedule oriented and often span over several weeks. Workout Trainer is perfect for a variety of fitness persons who are looking for a long term program or just need a quick sweat while traveling.

Nike Training Club

Our second app is Nike Training Club by NIKE INC. This app is definitely more of a regimen training app. Self-proclaimed as the app for the “world’s biggest female fitness community,” Nike Training Club has a multitude of workouts spread out over a week or more. It even features customizable workout programs.

The programs are motivational and are made by the Nike team in conjunction with some of the best female athletes in the world. What makes this app unique is the fact that it incorporates running along with strength training. It also connects with any NIKE+ devices/gear a trainee uses. Connectable devices include shoes, heart monitoring arm bands, iPods and even bracelets to help a participant keep track of their fitness progress and calorie count.

With the ability to work at a personal pace and a chance to unlock workouts done by celebrities, NIKE Training Club is one of the best out there. But not everyone can handle the full body workouts these professional athletes provide.

Daily Workouts

That brings the count to number three: Daily Workouts by Daily Workout Apps LLC. These are a small series of apps each focused on one specific part of the body. Like the before mentioned apps, Daily Workouts gives trainees the option to choose how long they would like a workout to be.

The freedom of this app is that it allows a participant to focus on one muscle group at a time. Instead of tiring the entire body one day and doing it all over again the next, a participant can work on abdominals Tuesday and arms Wednesday. (This app is best reserved for that one guy at the gym who skips leg day.) Daily Workouts’ simple and colorful interface makes it extremely easy to use for everyone in the family.

Daily Yoga

Weight training and high energy exercise is not for everyone. Many want to achieve a stronger body, mind and spirit without the bulk of big muscle. Maybe even simply destress from the crazy life a city can provide. Well Namaste.

Daily Yoga by IMOBLIFE CO.LTD is just the app any trainee needs to balance and restore peace of mind while achieving a lean muscular body. This app runs through the many poses and routines of common yoga practices.

When it comes to having clear instructions for each pose, varying levels of intensity and different time blocks; this app has it all. What makes it special is the fact that it has the same music that can be heard at any fancy yoga studio playing alongside the exercises. It also allows the choice of what it is the participant wants to work on. Daily Yoga can take a trainee through a series of poses to increase chest strength or a series to improve breathing or even learn how to properly meditate. This app is the go to for anyone who leads a busy life or wants to be fully re-energized. (Yoga also helps with depression, anger management and even menstruation symptoms.)

Pranayama

As our final app on this list, these exercises are often easily overlooked but have a tremendous benefit. Pranayama by Saagara is strictly a breathing technique app designed to improve your health. These breathing techniques are able to improve trainees’ exercise efforts, cure migraines, help with high blood pressure and even asthma.

This app is ready for beginners to experts at controlling breaths and many who practice meditation. Pranayama presents relaxing music and an easy to follow timer to keep you on track. It may seem simple and pointless but this app will improve any participant’s life in no time.

All of the apps on this list have not only a voice to guide trainees but video of each exercise as well. Whether training for a marathon, keeping your New Year’s resolution or getting in shape for the White Party in Palm Springs this summer, be sure to check out these five apps.
